HRL Laboratories is a research and development laboratory in Malibu, California, formerly jointly owned by Boeing and General Motors, whose quantum work includes silicon-spin qubit engineering, quantum materials and quantum sensing. IBM announced a definitive agreement to acquire HRL on 23 July 2026 and completed the acquisition on 26 August 2026; financial terms were not disclosed.
