Flybridge

  1. Flybridge declared AI its 'sole focus' in January 2024; a quantum founder is pitching outside the firm's stated thesis
  2. Its only quantum deal is the 2019 Aliro seed; the firm did not visibly participate in Aliro's October 2023 round (led by Toronto's Leaders Fund) or its February 2026 round (led by Gutbrain Ventures), and Aliro's own site now credits 'Cisco and Accenture' as its lead backers, not Flybridge
  3. David Aronoff, the partner who championed Aliro, left Flybridge at the end of 2019; nobody on the current investment team covers quantum or deep tech hardware
  4. Check size tops out around $3M at seed, thin for capital-intensive quantum hardware; the Opportunities Fund only follows into existing portfolio
  5. Boston quantum founders have specialist alternatives (Quantonation, The Engine, 2048 Ventures et al.) with real reserve capacity for the category
