Généraliste seed, pas un spécialiste quantique : 364 M$ US d'actifs sous gestion répartis sur sept véhicules (cinq fonds core plus deux fonds d'opportunités), déploie actuellement le Fund V (103 M$ US / 139 M$ CA, close final décembre 2023).
L'exposition quantique tient à un seul outlier : Xanadu, soutenue depuis 2017, avant le seed de 9 M$ US mené par OMERS en 2018. Xanadu est cotée Nasdaq et TSX (XNDU) depuis mars 2026 via SPAC.
Selon le Globe and Mail (mai 2026), le Fund II de 40 M$ US de Golden détenait des titres Xanadu valorisés environ 493 M$ US au pic post-cotation, avant la chute brutale du titre sur un dépôt de revente en mai 2026 ; la position reste bloquée par le lock-up jusqu'à fin septembre 2026.
La seconde position deep tech, ProteinQure, a pivoté du drug design assisté par quantique vers les peptides thérapeutiques conçus par IA (Phase I, PQ203) ; Golden a suivi dans son Series A de 11 M$ US (mai 2025).
Anti-thèse
Les schémas qui déclenchent un non rapide avec ce fonds.
- No quantum thesis: a sector-agnostic seed fund whose quantum exposure is one legacy outlier; no new quantum-native investment since the 2017 Xanadu entry
- Golden has never publicly led a quantum round; the Xanadu seed was led by OMERS Ventures, and Golden is absent from the disclosed participant lists of the Series B (2021) and Series C (2022)
- Post-SPAC, Xanadu is a public-market position awaiting liquidity (lockup lifts late September 2026), not a signal of fresh private quantum appetite; the May 2026 resale filing wiped out roughly 60% of the paper gain
- US$500K-3M initial cheques against the capital intensity of quantum hardware: Golden cannot carry a photonics roadmap alone and depends entirely on downstream syndication
- ProteinQure, the only other deep tech position, has pivoted out of quantum into AI peptide design; pitching Golden on quantum today means pitching a fund with no active quantum reserve thesis
