Investment thesis

Bosch Ventures (Robert Bosch Venture Capital GmbH) is the corporate venture arm of the Bosch Group, its sole LP. Its 2025 Fund VI (EUR 250M, about USD 280M) names quantum computing as a strategic pillar alongside AI and climate tech. The quantum conviction is concentrated and real: it led Quantum Motion's 2023 round and returned to co-back its USD 160M Series C in 2026, and it was an early Series B investor in IonQ (now public, exited via IPO). The angle is scalability through industry-standard silicon (Quantum Motion's transistor-based spin qubits) plus a hardware and manufacturing lens inherited from Bosch's sensor and MEMS heritage. Note the strict boundary: Bosch's quantum-sensing work (the Bosch Quantum Sensing JV with Element Six, 2025) sits inside the Bosch Group, not inside the Bosch Ventures portfolio.

  1. Tiny quantum book: the active quantum-computing position is essentially one name (Quantum Motion). IonQ is already exited via IPO, so the live exposure is thin and single-threaded
  2. Strategic, not financial: as a corporate VC with Bosch as sole LP, mandate fit with Bosch's industrial roadmap can outweigh pure venture upside, and priorities can shift with the parent
  3. Narrow architecture conviction: the thesis leans hard on silicon spin qubits. Founders on trapped-ion, photonic, or neutral-atom paths fit less naturally
  4. Group-level sensing is in-house, not a portfolio play: Bosch runs quantum sensing through the Element Six JV (Bosch Quantum Sensing). A startup pitching diamond-NV magnetometry may meet a potential internal competitor rather than a backer
  5. Fund-cycle timing: Fund VI (EUR 250M, 2025) spreads across AI, climate tech and quantum; quantum is a pillar, not the whole fund, so check size and pace are bounded
