Investment thesis

Parkwalk Advisors is the UK's most active investor in university spinouts and the country's largest EIS-focused deep-tech platform: over 200 companies backed, 70+ exits, £200m+ returned to investors and over £500m raised historically (as at April 2026). The firm describes itself as a founder investor in the UK quantum industry, with five quantum-computing spin-outs in portfolio: Oxford Quantum Circuits (initial investment 2017), Quantum Motion (silicon spin; $160m Series C 2026), Phasecraft (quantum algorithms), Riverlane (error correction) and Nu Quantum (networking); it also backs Crypto Quantique (post-quantum security). Parkwalk manages dedicated Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial and Bristol university innovation funds in partnership with each institution's tech-transfer office. It is rarely the lead investor but is the default UK EIS co-investor alongside IP Group, Oxford Science Enterprises and Cambridge Innovation Capital on university rounds. Its moat is a tax-advantaged capital pool plus preferred-partner access to top UK research universities. Wholly owned by IP Group plc since 2017.

  2. EIS / Knowledge Intensive EIS structuring constraints: companies must qualify under EIS rules (size, age, employee count, KI tests), so growth-stage or US-domiciled quantum hardware is not eligible
  3. Entry point is technology-proven / pre-commercialisation: pure pre-IP concept stage and post-commercial scale-ups both fall outside the typical 1 to 1.5M GBP initial cheque for 15 to 20 percent
  4. Wants defensible IP from a leading UK research institution: quantum startups without strong patent estate or university licence are a likely pass even if the team is strong
