Vertex Ventures Israel
Vertex Israel holds two quantum positions through its DeepTech practice, hardware (Quantum Art, trapped-ion, backed from seed through the $100M Series A) and software (Classiq), making it one of the few Israeli generalists with exposure across the local quantum stack.
Investment thesis
Generalist Israeli early-stage firm founded in 1997 by Yoram Oron, investing exclusively in Israeli entrepreneurs from Pre-seed to Series B out of Tel Aviv, with $0.5M to $10M first checks and a usually-lead, board-seat posture.
Quantum exposure sits inside a broader DeepTech pocket rather than a dedicated quantum thesis: two positions, Quantum Art (trapped-ion, multi-core full-stack hardware, Weizmann Institute spin-out) and Classiq (quantum development platform: IDE, compiler, OS), spanning the Israeli hardware-software stack.
Quantum Art is the conviction bet: seed investor in 2022 alongside Amiti, StageOne, Entrée and the Weizmann Institute, then re-upped in the $100M Series A (December 2025, Bedford Ridge lead), with founder Yoram Oron personally leading the relationship.
Part of the global Vertex network anchored by Vertex Holdings (Temasek), giving portfolio companies bridges to affiliates in Silicon Valley, China, Japan and Southeast Asia, a relevant channel for quantum startups seeking Asian markets and capital.
Anti-thesis
The patterns that trigger a fast no with this fund.
- No dedicated quantum thesis, vehicle or partner: quantum is an opportunistic slice of a generalist DeepTech pocket, and the firm did not appear in any of the other major Israeli quantum rounds of 2025 (QuamCore, Qedma, Quantum Machines)
- Israel-only mandate: it exclusively backs Israeli entrepreneurs, so non-Israeli quantum founders are out of scope by policy, not by preference
- Absent from Quantum Art's $40M Series A extension in April 2026, suggesting quantum follow-on appetite has limits at growth-size checks
- Entry into Classiq is undocumented in any press release across five disclosed rounds; the position is portfolio-confirmed but its size and vintage are opaque
