Investment thesis
M12 is Microsoft's $1B+ corporate venture arm, founded 2016, investing Series A-C (occasional D) in enterprise-focused software. 100+ portfolio companies, 15 unicorns, six IPOs. Core thesis: AI, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, developer tools and vertical SaaS, with selective frontier bets in Web3, autonomous systems and quantum. Cheques $1-20M, lead or co-lead.
Quantum bet is concentrated and significant: co-investor in PsiQuantum (silicon-photonic, fault-tolerant million-qubit architecture, $7B+ valuation) alongside BlackRock, Baillie Gifford, Atomico, Temasek, Founders Fund and the Australian/Queensland governments ($617M). PsiQuantum launched the Omega photonic chipset Feb 2025 manufactured at GlobalFoundries Malta. Exposure aligns with Microsoft's Azure Quantum cloud, which already integrates PsiQuantum, Quantinuum, IonQ and Pasqal on a single platform.
Value-add is channel-heavy: direct commercial distribution via Azure Quantum, GitHub developer reach, and Microsoft enterprise sales — a full enterprise GTM stack few corporate investors can offer quantum software founders.
Differentiated as the only quantum investor backed by a hyperscaler already monetizing multi-architecture quantum access at scale — unique platform-pull for portfolio companies.
