Investment thesis
Molten Ventures is Europe's largest listed technology venture vehicle (formerly Draper Esprit), operating as an evergreen c. £1.9bn platform that backs generational-shift technology companies at Series B and growth. Within quantum, Molten's conviction is focused rather than diversified: it led the £15m Series B of Riverlane in 2023, backing the UK leader in quantum error correction as the single quantum bet across a broader deep-tech allocation that spans AI, fintech, climate and space. The firm prefers software-leverage layers of hardware-adjacent sectors — error correction OS is the Deltaflow.OS play. Listed status gives patient capital and the ability to follow on into later rounds without fund-life pressure. Molten typically takes a board seat and supports portfolio companies from Series B through to IPO or strategic exit. Isomorphic Labs is NOT a Molten portfolio company (it is wholly owned by Alphabet).

- We don't chase pure science projects without a credible 5 to 7 year path to commercial revenue: pre-product quantum hardware with no enterprise pilots in sight is a pass
- We avoid full-stack ambitions when the founder can't articulate which layer (hardware, control, middleware, algorithms) actually defends margin long-term
- As a listed vehicle with NAV discipline, we don't write checks that require 10+ years of dilutive follow-on with no IPO comparables in the public quantum tape
- We don't back teams without a deep UK/European university anchor (Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, ETH) given how thin the talent pool is and how much IP provenance matters at exit
- We pass on 'quantum advantage someday' narratives: we want a wedge use case (simulation, optimisation, sensing) where a paying design partner exists today
